A former Google executive rejected the generalized belief that artificial intelligence (AI) will generate new job opportunities, calling it “100% shit” and “a capitalist lie”.
Mo Gawdat, who was a business director at Google X for almost five years, said that not only will not be possible to create jobs, but it will also replace the roles once thought of safe, including management positions. Speaking on the newspaper of a PDG podcast, Gawdat warned: “Video editors, podcastors, executives – all will be replaced.” He also underlined the predictions of Bill Gates that even doctors and teachers could possibly be exceeded by AI systems.
Gawdat cited its own startup propelled by AI, Emma.Love, as proof of rapid disruption. The platform, developed by only three engineers, would have previously required a team of around 350 people to build, he said.
“Better than humans to everything”, the entrepreneur, who is also the author of Scary Smart: the future of artificial intelligence and how you can save our world, believes that general artificial intelligence (AG) will ultimately go beyond humans in all areas, including leadership. “There will be a time when most incompetent CEOs will be replaced,” he said, noting that even the most efficient will not remain safe forever.
He argued that the planned economic upheavals will force a fundamental redress of the relationship of society with work. “We have never been brought to wake up every morning and occupy 8 pm of our day with work,” said Gawdat. “We have defined our goal as a job. It is a capitalist lie. ”
Beyond work as an identity, while his vision of employment is austere, Gawdat suggested that there could be an advantage if the company adapts. Released from a rigid existence centered on work, people could recover more time for the family, hobbies, philanthropy and rediscovering the identity beyond job titles.
Gawdat’s comments add to a growing debate around the future of employment as IA systems are evolving quickly, which raises questions about the question of whether technological progress releases or will ultimately destabilize the workforce in the world.
