Fresno Teachers Association accuses FUSD of using AI in document criticizing the union

Fresno, California (KFSN) – The Fresno Teachers Association requires an investigation after declaring that the spokesperson for Fresno Unified used artificial intelligence to compile a list of alleged comments that the union made on the Superintendent Misty.

The union says that a recent document shows the negligence of the SUBD management, but the district says that it has never been intended for publication.

It is not a secret for anyone that the Fresno Teachers Association and Fresno Unified do not get along.

Action News learned that tensions took place at a meeting between the union and the district to discuss communications.

At that time, the union received a document listing examples of FTA targeting Superintendent Misty in the press, on social networks and by e-mail to its 4,400 members.

“There was even a suggestion that because of certain quotes from this document which led to cases of identity -based attacks,” said AFT president Manuel Bonilla.

We have examined the digital document and verified the quotes.

An example was our own story on the governance changes of the board of directors. The quotation indicated on the document mentions a “blatant power”, but this quote has not appeared on our website or our diffusion.

In fact, none of the quotes listed seem correct.

Bonilla noticed the same thing and another detail on the URL.

“I saw something that said Chatgpt, Googlé what it could mean and I found that it had been generated by a chatgpt response,” said Bonilla.

Chatgpt is an artificial intelligence application.

It seems that information director Nikki Henry used the application to make the list.

The union’s concern is that it has been accepted and presented by the superintendent as a fact.

“The creation of this document is already bad enough. The fact that it seems that AI has been used to generate it and potentially used without any type of verification – we would not accept that of our students. We should not accept it from our leadership,” said Bonilla.

The union calls for an investigation into this issue and says that if no one is responsible, it plans to take legal action, which says that members of the EFT support.

Action News has contacted Fresno Unified for an interview on this subject, but the district said it would not publish any declaration at the moment.
