The switch to Android will be easier with the ESIM transfer
The evidence of a new iPhone on Android Esim Wireless Transfer Transfer appeared in a construction of the Android 16 Beta, suggesting that Apple could reveal such a functionality for iOS 19 during WWDC 2025.
The process of passing the iPhone ecosystems to Android has been rationalized over the years thanks to the work of Apple and Google. The latest feature could overcome one of the largest headache in the process.
Discovered code by Android authorityMishaal Rahman in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 indicates that the Google Sim Manager application has a language to help users transfer their ESIM from iPhone to Android. More specifically, it mentions a new “Transfer to Android” section in the IOS parameters application under general, transfer or reset the iPhone.
Presumably, this feature would be announced as part of iOS 19 during WWDC, but nothing stopped Apple to deploy it during the summer in a version of iOS 18. It is a relatively minor functionality, but useful for those who move between the ecosystems of the device.
The transition from iPhone to Android is already simple thanks to existing data transfer systems and tools available on Google and Apple. However, ESIM is not automatically moved, which means that users must interact with their supplier ESIM in one way or another for the transfer occurs.
The new system would display the user a QR code on the iPhone that would be analyzed by the Android phone. The ESIM is then transferred wirelessly, this is how it works for Android to Android transfers today.
Users moving between iPhones also have a simple solution to transfer ESIM which is included in the device upgrade process. This new feature would be the first time that multiplatform transfers have been simplified.
There is no mention of knowing if going in the other direction, from Android to the iPhone, would obtain a similar functionality. At the very least, it can appear in a future update in the context of Apple’s application on Apple’s movement on the Google Play Store.
