The annual conference of Google developers – Google I / O 2025 – is expected to start on May 20. The 2 -day event will unveil several new software updates. Google has already shared that the event will focus on four areas: Android, AI, Web and Cloud. This means that the scene should introduce Android 16 and new features for Gemini AI. While announcing the dates, Google noted that “you will learn more about the new products, technologies and innovations of Google in AI”. The event will be “open to everyone online” and will include “Keynotes and live sessions”. Similar to previous events, there will also be a physical rally at the Shoreline amphitheater in Mountain View, California.
Google I / O 2025 event: what to expect
– Android 16: Android 16 has generated a considerable buzz in recent weeks, and it seems that this upcoming event could finally clarify speculation. Depending on the reports, the new operating system could include redesigned volume controls, a more refined user interface and upgrades to accessibility tools. It should also include support for health files, a more dynamic refresh rate and additional confidentiality and security improvements.
Based on rumors, Android 16 will introduce an advanced protection mode. This new safety feature is designed to provide users with an additional protective layer by tightening the device safety settings. When activated, it automatically implements a series of measures to improve safety – especially beneficial for people who cannot regularly explore or adjust advanced safety options themselves.
With Android 16, Google should also improve its Health Connect platform via the introduction of Health Connect 2.0. This updated version will support the sharing of medical records in FIR format – the standard widely adopted by health professionals. To maintain user confidentiality, applications can only access or modify health data if the user provides clear and specific consent. The update will also bring new features such as monitoring the intensity of physical activity, categorizing training as moderate or strictly in accordance with the directives of the World Health Organization.

– Gemini and other AI updates: Another key announcement should be at the AI stage. The E / S home page includes a “starting today” segment that highlights the open gemini, Google AI Studio and Notebooklm model – suggesting that these tools are likely to appear in the key announcements of the day.
Recent leaks suggest that an improved version of the Gemini Ultra model is on the horizon, with Gemini Ultra being Google’s premium offer in the Gemini range. This improved model can be accompanied by a more expensive Gemini subscription.
It is very likely that Google will discuss Astra, its ambitious project aimed at developing AI applications and “agents” for multimodal understanding in real time. Project Mariner, which also involves AI “agents” who can navigate the web and take measures on behalf of the users. X users have identified references to “the use of the computer” in the AI Studio platform code of Google, which could be linked to Mariner.
– Android XR: Android XR, the extensive reality operating system created by Google and Samsung, should be revealed during the Google I / O 2025 event. The platform aims to integrate virtual, increased and mixed reality experiences for helmets (including the Samsung Moohan project) and smart glasses, with Google’s Gemini AI in its heart. Google hopes that Android XR will also be able to supply specialized helmets from other technological companies, positioning itself to compete with Apple and Meta in the mixed reality market.
