After having largely deployed the composition field redrawn last month, Google Messages now deals with a common complaint about the limit of 4 lines during the editorial staff by leaving the text zone to become much larger.
6/8 update: In addition to the overhaul of the large gallery with a full screen camera and a better quality shipment, Google Messages recently deployed the new text field limit in 14 lines. This 10 -line increase seems to be on all phones.
This improvement in quality of life allows you to type more without having to scroll to see everything once you are ready to send. It’s great when sending links. We see it with the latest stable version (version 20250519_04_c00).
Original 4/12: Previously, there was a limit of 4 lines before what you hit was out of sight. It was particularly boring when sharing URL (with short, even short, easily covering three lines), and you often force you to scroll what you wrote at the beginning.
With Latest Google Beta messages (Version 20250409_01_RC00), we now see a field of text in 14 lines which should be more than enough for people to see everything they have hit before sending.
Old vs new
The extended text field limit for Google messages is not yet available in the stable channel on the phones we have checked today.
It is a great improvement in the quality of life. Google was probably waiting to deploy the redesigned composition box before introducing the enlarged field.
Meanwhile, Google has now largely deployed an adjustment which adds more padding above and below the un activated / empty text field to better align with material 3. The button also send larger.
