Android has just changed?
Google rarely surprises Android users, especially those who have its own pixels. But that’s what happened this month. The clumsy optics of pixel owners being the first among the equals compared to the much larger Samsung user base took a sudden touch.
As I pointed out earlier in the month, Android July security update was not at all a security update. “There are no Android safety corrections in the Android security bulletin in July 2025,” said Google with “No safety corrections“For pixels either.
The disparity between pixels and samsungs became a real thing. Google phones received Android 15 more than six months before recent Galaxy flagship products, then as Samsung phones saw that Upgrade, the pixels were already moving to Android 16.
But this same diagram has also been seen every month. A monthly update of the safety of fast, effective and “seamless” pixels compared to the fragmented and laborious Samsung equivalent.
But this month, the Samsung security update looked like business as usual, while Pixel was anything but. It is the first time in almost a decade – since August 2015 – that the monthly update of Android has drawn such white.
The reality is somewhat different. There have been Android updates for July which have made their way on Pixel phones as part of an Android 16 update, but for users on older versions of the operating system or with older devices, that does not help.
There are now more than a billion Android devices that fall against the reduction in Google security updates for Android 12 and more, as well as its adjustment of its Play integrity API to disadvantage the applications operating on these non -supported versions of the operating system. If you have an Android 12 or more phone, you should really lift for an upgrade.
By Security week“This is the first month without security updates since Google began to deploy monthly Android fixes in August 2015, seeking to make the mobile operating system safer for users and suppliers.” And it also looks like a “thing”.
But as to whether it is only a blow in the Samsung challenges against Pixel, we will know it sooner. Google’s phone is underway with Android 16 and new security and confidentiality features, while Samsung is waiting for its own deployment. It’s probably nothing Really amended.
