Google has unveiled Android XR, a new extended reality platform designed to integrate its Gemini AI into portable devices such as smart glasses and helmets.

During its E / O developer conference in 2025 Tuesday, the technology giant presented Android XR glasses, the first set of glasses of the company since the unfortunate Glass Google Smart glasses in 2023.

During the presentation, Shahram Izadi, Vice-President and Managing Director of Android XR, underlined the need for portability and quick access to information without relying on a phone.

“When you are on the move, you will want light glasses that can give you timely information without looking for your phone,” he said. “We built Android XR together in a team with Samsung and optimized it for Snapdragon with Qualcomm.”

Google announced for the first time Android XR in December 2024. The revelation arrived eight months after Meta published the latest version of its Ray -Ban Meta AI glasses – a sign of increasing competition in the space of portable.

Like Meta AI glasses, Android XR glasses include a camera, microphones and speakers and can connect to an Android device.

Google’s flagship AI, Gemini provides real -time information, linguistic translation and objective objective display that displays information if necessary.

During the presentation, Google also showed live streaming capacities Android XR Glasses, as well as their ability to take photos, receive text messages and display Google Maps.

Google has also demonstrated how Gemini can complete exploration and navigation through immersive experiences.

“With Google Maps in XR, you can teleport anywhere in the world simply by asking Gemini to take you there,” said Izadi. “You can speak with your AI assistant about everything you see and have it drawn from the videos and websites of what you explore.”

Although Google has not announced a release or price date, Izadi said that glasses would be available thanks to partnerships with the South Korean Gentle Monster glasses brand and the American brand Warby Parker, adding that a developer platform for Android XR is in development.

“We create the software hardware platform and reference to allow the ecosystem to build large glasses by our side,” said Parker. “Our glasses prototypes are already used by trusted testers, and you can start developing for glasses later this year.”
