Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
TL;DR
- The Google Play Store has implemented a Play Points loyalty system to earn discounts.
- Until now, you have managed your Play Points directly through the Play Store app.
- Google Wallet has now started offering users the option to add Play Points as a loyalty card.
Google Wallet is more than just a place to keep your credit cards, and the app has become a truly worthy digital card hub, offering everything from travel cards to loyalty cards. This latest addition is one that the app has paid special attention to this year, creating tools to help you keep them up to date and surface the right one at the right time. Now we’re learning about the latest loyalty card benefit coming to Wallet, as the app begins supporting Google Play Points.
I don’t want to miss the best of Android Authority?
Arguably, much like Wallet itself, Play Points is one of those corners of the Google ecosystem that few users take full advantage of, so there’s a nice synergy to seeing them both start to play well together now.
Right now, access to Play Points in Wallet seems to be a bit limited and only some users have been able to add them to the app. The Japanese blog Jetstream We spotted notifications about the new support appearing in the Play Store, and we saw additional confirmation from users in the Gapps Leaks Telegram group. We still don’t know exactly when this option first became available, but it appears to be relatively recent.
If you can do this with your account, you should see the option appear in the Play Store. We don’t yet know of a manual way to force the option if you haven’t seen this prompt yet, so you just need to have a little patience.
Once added, you will be able to check your Play Points level, status and see the actual number of points you have accumulated, directly from Wallet.
Make no mistake: none of this will really change the way we use Play Points. But it doesn’t seem right when Google products don’t work together seamlessly the way they were designed. So we’re glad that someone finally noticed this oversight and got the ball rolling on finally putting these pieces together.
