I tried many Android clock applications, but none beat Samsung

Although I have my favorite applications, including what I consider to be the best video editing application and the best task list application, I never thought of being very special about the clock application that I used. As long as I remember, I used any clock with my phone.

But in recent years, I have gotten used to the features of Samsung Clock. As it is only available on Samsung phones, I tried to switch to another clock application which is not linked to a particular OEM. Despite a lot to try, I couldn’t find one that meets my needs in the same way.

Do you have a favorite clock application on Android?

Samsung’s clock application has become an essential part of my routine

So what about the clock application of Samsung which makes me in a strangulation? It comes down to the personalization of its rehearsal function. Due to my chronic fatigue, I often need to adapt when I wake up according to what I feel that day. This means that I attach a lot of importance to an adjustable and reproducible repetition function.

I place a lot of importance on an adjustable and reproducible repetition function.

Most applications force you to choose a predefined rehearsal time, with a lot of Maxais at 30 minutes. But the application of Samsung allows me to adjust the rehearsal timer up to 60 minutes. In addition, when the alarm sounds, I can adjust the rehearsal time with simple and less simple icons – which is useful when I just need additional 10 minutes to be awake.

My first alarm acts essentially as a boost to get me out of the deep sleep. I then repeated it in order to wake up in an hour. One day when I recover from a migraine or a few particularly exhausting days, I can ring my alarm again. But the days when I have an appointment where I need to travel, I only give myself an additional 15 minutes for myself.

My dependence on this extremely customizable rehearsal has reached the point that even if I have not used a Samsung phone as a daily driver since 2023, I still sleep with a Samsung device near my home.

Alternatives simply do not measure

I made my strong preference for the clock application of Samsung when I went from an ultra S22 to an Oppo Reno 10 Pro + in 2023. My S22 Ultra screen was seriously cracked with a fall on concrete, so I was relieved to finally go to a new device. But I had trouble adapting to the different clock application that came with Oppo’s phone. It was then that I tried for the first time to find a clock application in OEM to take the place of Samsung, but the Google app was maximum at a 30-minute nap.

Consequently, my S22 Ultra retained its position on my bedside table even if I had left the use of the device. I finally obtained an ultra S23 as a secondary appearance during a sale, mainly to use to take photos when I was traveling or I had to take photos for work. But in addition to being my essential camera smartphone, it has also become my main alarm clock. Even if I went to another camera smartphone, the S23 Ultra has kept its place as my alarm clock – the only time I let it rest from this work, it was when I had an ultra S25 for exam.

Now there is no shortage of clock applications available. I spent hours covering the Google Play Store for an application to replace Samsung. In fact, I like that the Google Clock application would allow me to integrate it into a Google Assistant routine. But this Sweet Spot of rehearsal personalability is missing.

I spent hours covering the Google Play Store for an application to replace Samsung.

When I changed my daily pilot at the Honor 400 Pro, I hoped that I could finally put an end in search of a new clock application. But again, I was welcomed my limited rehearsal period. I have renewed my efforts to find a clock application that would not hold me linked to a specific brand, but research was not a success.

Most of the applications I tried limited their rehearsal to 30 minutes maximum and as much as I would like to be a person who only needs a 30 -minute break to wake up, my reality is that I need longer. Do not embark on the number of climbing and grin clock applications that do not at all include a rehearsal function. My problem is not that I am a heavy or lazy sleeper, but that I feel a non -restorative and agitated sleep that makes literal pain to get out of bed before I am ready.

I extended my research to include applications that I initially rejected because of their inclusion of announcements. I was welcomed by the same limit of 30 minutes, the applications asked for authorizations that I was not comfortable giving. For example, two of the Freemium clock applications that I tried would not work unless I have granted authorization to display on other applications, despite none of my other clock applications requiring this authorization.

I found other clock applications that seemed promising at first, only to verify their data collection policies and decide that they were not worth the compromise of confidentiality. After all, why would I be comfortable with a simple clock application sharing my personal information with third parties when it is a general rule for me to give this kind of applications a leap unless it is absolutely necessary?

For the moment, I’m stuck to use two bed phones

After my last search for alternative clock applications has given no viable result, I accepted that my current configuration of two bed phones should continue. This is not the worst problem to have, but it is boring when I travel and I have to take several devices with me just so that one acts like an alarm.

I planned to go to my ultra S23 as my daily pilot, but it does not support my current physical SIM configuration. There are also advantages to using a physical SIM card, while the transition to an ESIM in my country is delivered with its own barriers that dissuade me from change.

Some people may also suggest gathering and getting on board with 30 -minute rehearsal limits, but I have developed my habit due to specific needs. There have been several times that I have forced myself before I was ready to get out of bed, and it often triggered a migraine, extended a migraine attack in progress or aggravated my chronic fatigue during the day. I don’t see my sleep habits change anytime soon even if I wanted it.

I hope that some other alternative clock applications with more personalization (which also respect my private life) will emerge which will allow me to pack my Samsung phone. I would even pay a clock application at a reasonable price that offers the features I need. But in the meantime, my clumsy configuration will live.
