As smartphones have become more popular, they brought an increasing problem with them: control of screen time is difficult whatever you are and how you use your phone. With social media attentive to keep your attention, the dangers of conviction of your path in the night are too apparent.
It is also understandable: to open Tiktok And you are overwhelmed with content. Bright, vibrant and engaging clips – and if you are not immediately caught by this, you can simply go to the next. There is no time to get bored, it is the entertainment at pressure. It is also a terrible way to end your day as you involuntarily slip into scrolling.
I spend a lot of time on my phone. You would expect this because I write on the phones, but the screen time bothers me, especially when I just lose time in the evening. This is why I decided to use the Greyscale mode of Android to help me get out of bad habits.
Bad screen time habits can affect your sleep
I will not punish anyone for having crossed Instagram while they head for work or school. This is exactly at this time that social media is great. Of course, you could read a book or play games, but scrolling on your phone is not intrinsically bad. But when it’s 10 p.m. and you are supposed to go to bed, it’s a real problem.

Android has an integrated gray functionality and appropriately, it is in a section of the settings menu called Digital well-being and parental orders.
Although most of the digital well-being page indicates the amount of screen time each application, I am not so worried about it. The most important part is lower on the page Bedtime. This allows you to control the behavior of your phone, by establishing a routine for your device and, hopefully, for you too.
In Display settings You will find the option to transform your phone into Greys levels – or black and white. There are also other options, such as switching on wallpaper, going into dark mode and deactivating a display function always on.
(Some Android manufacturers use a slightly different label: for example, Samsung brings together the functions in its Mode and routines Parameters, but it is also accessible by digital well-being and parental controls.)
For me, Greyscale is the most effective way to break the screen. The vibrant colors of Instagram are wiped out, it is more difficult to locate the application you want, the videos do not have the chandelier they normally make, so I stop scrolling and continue with my routine at bedtime.
The mode at bedtime on my phone transforms the screen into gray levels at 10 p.m. It’s the hard line for me to stop using my phone.
I use Android Greyscale mode to apply my routine to bedtime
I am not a good sleeper. The slightest thing will keep me awake, stress, caffeine, alcohol, work late at night. All these things have a negative impact on my sleep latency – this is the time it takes to fall asleep.
Before Greyscale was an option, Android devices often push their blue light filter. This could be called the night light, eye care or similar. I think it also has a function, because it reduces the impact that the display has on you when you start to enter the evening.
I put my pixel to switch to night light when the sun sets and before Greyscale gets into play. But unlike Greyscale, night light does not create this break. I keep using my phone when it happens, but for the Greyscale, I do it.
Of course, if you are on an evening and the notifications of your phone were all deactivated because the bedtime mode has turned on, it can be frustrating. But most of the time, gray level and bedtime help apply my routine to bed to help me sleep better.
