IOS 18.6 FLAW ZERO-DAY patches exploited in chrome attacks

With iOS 18.6 finally available, Apple did not give iPhone users many reasons to upgrade before the main version of iOS 26 later expected this fall. After all, alongside “bugs and usual safety improvements”, the company said that iOS 18.6 resolved a “rare” problem that prevented users from sharing video memories of the Photos Application.

While some people prefer not to upgrade their iPhone software because of the myth that it makes their devices slower or have a permanent impact on their battery life, bad release notes can also be harmful when they do not provide the most relevant details on the update. In this case, Apple has also corrected a major security flaw that has been used in the attacks by Google Chrome Zéro-Jour.

That said, do not update your iPhone to iOS 18.6 (or to the last beta iOS 26) means that you could face a major security violation that could allow hackers to execute malicious software on your device, steal data or spy on your activity.

What to know about the zero-day chrome attack

As spotted by BIP computerThis high severity vulnerability has been treated by Apple as CVE-2025-6558. The vulnerability of the Chrome browser GPU opened the door to be attacked by simply visiting a hacked website, as attackers could run a code on your Mac or iPhone and bypass the protections that normally keep the browser in safety.

In this spirit, hackers could easily run malware on your device to steal your passwords, deploy ransomware to lock your files and even use your computer for crypto-exploitation or botnet attacks.

This zero-day flaw could even intercept your clipboard when you copy on important personal details or credit card numbers, or save from your webcam or microphone. That said, this threat indeed means that you must update your iPhone and Mac to iOS 18.6 and MacOS 15.6 as soon as you can do, because these attacks could be made even if you are notified in technology and always on the lookout for scams.
