With iOS 26, Apple presents its greatest design update in more than a decade. The revision of this overhaul is a new liquid glass interface which adds a translucent layer look on the elements on the screen on the best iPhones. Now that the public beta version iOS 26 is out, you can take a look – and that changes the game for your home screen.
The liquid glass interface essentially adds a third way of visualizing the application icons in addition to the traditional light and dark modes. When activated, each icon obtains rounded edges and a translucent finish without color, a new minimalist design that allows any image behind it bleeding as if you were looking through the glass.
“Its color is informed by the surrounding content and adapts intelligently between clear and dark environments,” said Apple in a press release last month.
As for the “liquid” part of the name, this refers to how these transparent keys adapt dynamically when you use your Apple device. The menus and buttons can respond to your contact, with a certain gathering around your finger while others have separated into new menus to avoid obtaining your vision of the content.
In addition, the elements of your lock screen can stretch and move to accommodate background images or incoming notifications. Wallpapers now also benefit from a spatial photo effect, something borrowed from Visionos found on Apple’s Vision Pro helmet, which can tilt and move an image according to your visualization perspective.
The liquid glass is not exclusive to the Apple mobile operating system either. The company unifies the appearance of its software in all areas to make the switching between Apple Watch, iPhone and Mac more transparent. “The new design extends to iOS, iPados, MacOS, Watchos and Tvos, with system experiences such as the locking screen, the home screen, the office and the quay,” said Apple.
How to customize your iPhone with liquid glass icons
Personalizing your home screen with the new iOS 26 liquid glass design is quite simple. Since iOS 26 is still in its test phase (a complete deployment expected around September), you will first have to get the public beta version on your phone. We have a step -by -step guide on how to download the public beta version iOS 26 if you have not already done so.
Once this is downloaded, activation of the liquid glass interface is easy. It just takes three simple steps:
- Press in the long term anywhere on the lock screen Or the background of your phone to reveal the Modify button in the upper left corner. Press Edit.
- At the bottom of the screen, a context menu will display clear, dark, tinted and clear options. Press Claire.
- Choose between a light, clear or clear light or a clear car.
The clear option transforms everything into glass, and Dark gives your interface this glass look while retaining some of the original color of the icons. Alternatively, you can select the car so that the interface switches between light and darkness depending on the time of day.
And that’s it! Your home screen icon will immediately obtain the liquid glass design, allowing your background to shine through your applications for an elegant and minimalist sensation. If you change an opinion later and want to return to the old look, simply follow the same steps.
