In iOS 26, Apple added a new feature to its customization options for the home screen that can correspond to the color of your application icons with the real color of your iPhone. The image below shows the effect on the new iPhone 17 Pro in Cosmic Orange.
In iOS 18, Apple introduced tinted app icons. The option applies a color filter on application icons, widgets and even system user interface elements, and with iOS 26, Apple has built on the theme with a new option that corresponds to the color of your iPhone model.
IOS 26 knows the exact finish and color variant of your iPhone – deep blue, wise or lavender, for example – because Apple has the sku of the mapped device at the firmware (SKUs are a unique identifier that companies use to follow and manage stocks). This allows iOS to identify your model and match a specific color profile.
This filter uses a basic color from the color of the chassis of your iPhone, then automatically adjusts the brightness, saturation and contrast so that the icons remain readable while reflecting the tone of the equipment. The following steps show you how it is.
- On the home screen of your iPhone, press a space between application icons for a long time.
- Faucet To modify In the upper left corner, then select Personalize In the context menu.
- Choose Tinted In the options that appear, press the iPhone button on the left in the two horizontal colored sliders.
- Select Light,, DarkOr CarDepending on your preferences.
That’s all there is. We have heard of the color correspondence option of the iPhone who does not work for some users who have updated the old iPhone models on iOS 26. It is probably a bug that Apple, hopefully, to correct in a next update.
Make the application icons match with the color of the housing of your iPhone
If you immediately press the button to the right of the new iPhone color shade option, iOS 26 will even correspond to the colors of the application icon to the color of your iPhone housing. However, this only works with official cases of Apple Magsafe which include a small NFC chip with information on color variants.
Note that the tinted mode seems different in iOS 26 than in iOS 18. Rather than icons with a black background with colored graphics, the icons adopt the complete color that you select with white graphics in light mode. In dark mode, the backgrounds are a much darker shade of the color you choose, but are not entirely black.
