IOS 26 BETA 4 has just arrived, and this is probably the last beta developer that Apple will launch before the start in beta version scheduled for this month. This did not prevent Apple from making fairly large adjustments to the operating system.
Liquid glass, the great design language of the great new design of iOS 26, has become more “liquid” again, after the beta 3 set the effect.
Rather than just blurring the background, we get the deformation effect again, as if the menu bars were made from curved glass.
Apple still envisages readability, however. For example, there is now a darker shade with the notification shade that appears when you scroll through your notifications.
Although we are here, we can also consult the new dynamic iOS 26 wallpaper. This changes colors throughout the day, but the overview shows all the different bike shades between each other to clearly show the effect.
One modification we are waiting for is that the calls for calls for calls now appear in the settings menu. You can deactivate this feature, or simply prevent unknown appellants from ringing, or using the new option where Siri will ask the caller for which they ring.
We also see new welcome screens in parts of the interface, probably made in preparation for the public beta version to help guide new users. When you unlock the phone for the first time after installing the beta version, you get a torque that runs the changes to the main applications, and some specific applications receive new messages after having opened them, such as the camera.
During the opening process, iOS 26 also highlights the return of notification summaries for news and entertainment applications, for users who wish to oppose. For these critical applications, Apple promises that the summaries of the AI will be clearly marked as such, let’s hope, by ensuring that not all of the bancaux summaries will not cause problems. You can also use this screen to select if you want to apply AI summaries to the notifications of communications and social applications, and applications more generally.
In iOS 18, the telephones that supported Apple Intelligence took on a summary function of notifications, but the summaries of the news and entertainment stories were disabled in January 2025 when the summaries proved to be extremely inaccurate or misleading. This change restores this functionality in iOS 26.
There are probably other changes that will be discovered, but it seems to be all the major changes to iOS 26 Beta 4. Although there are not really new toys with which to play, the modifications all seem intelligent and considered. We are impatient to test it in the coming days and introduce a new wave of users to iOS 26 changes when the public beta version is posted, which occurs this week.
