With iOS 26, Apple adds a New alarmand For developers who offer applications with alarm clocks and timers. Alarmkit provides access to system levels to alarm functionality, which was previously only reserved for Apple Clock application.
The developers will now be able to create applications that have the same set of features and the same authorizations as Apple’s integrated alarm features, including alerts that are still active even if the silent mode or a development mode is activated, snooze and full stop options and access to the locking screen, dynamic island and Apple Watch.
In iOS 18 and before, the developers used alerts sensitive to time for alarms and critical alerts when they gave Apple’s right, but there was no option for an alert that cannot be missed as alerts from the clock application. There was also no lock screen superposition, and there were limits on the number of alarms that could be defined.
Alarms of third -party applications may not trigger if the iPhone restarts or if the application is updated, which was problematic, and alerts could be silenced with focus.
The new framework will support unlimited alarms and rehearsal options, so there will not be the same limitations before, and alarm alerts will not be simple notifications. In the coming months, we should see more complete alarm applications and applications with timeries that are able to better compete with Apple’s integrated options.
Apple’s alarm functionality in the clock application has a new look in ios 26, with a larger time display and larger stop and repetition buttons. Apple also allows users to personalize the rehearsal length, choosing a duration between 1 minute and 15 minutes. Previously, the snooze still lined an alarm for nine minutes.
