“Depending on the amount of free space available, iOS could dynamically reserve the update space for automatic updates to download and successfully install,” explains Apple in beta documentation.
At this stage, Apple has not revealed how the dynamic reservation system or the quantity of storage allocated for automatic updates work. However, business efforts align with similar mechanisms in MacOS. If you do not know it, Apple already uses temporary management of the system storage during updates, even in the case of iOS, but the new feature could mean that the system actively manages and keeps the space as part of its background maintenance.
There is also no Apple word on the question of whether users will be informed when the space is reserved or if they will have the possibility of withdrawing from the operation. The functionality should operate automatically and transparently, which facilitates the installation of the latest iOS updates. The update facilitates users who tend to ignore storage warnings or those who are not aware of the remaining storage capacity of their device.
