Apple apparently prepares a final update and iOS 18. The log files for several major Apple websites, especially MacrumorsIt is said that containing inscriptions for an unprecedented “iOS 18.7”. It has not yet been sent to beta by Apple. As a reminder, the latest iOS 18 version was 18,6,2, which contained an important security solution for a vulnerability that the attackers had already exploited. It has recently been revealed that attacks apparently took place via WhatsApp in the form of a zero click attack.
Two weeks to iOS 26
We still don’t know what iOS 18.7 contains. We can assume that Apple will correct the last known bugs of the operating system, will branch all the new security gaps that could have emerged and prepare the passage to iOS 26, if they are not yet finished. Indeed, the brand new operating system, which includes a new interface called Liquid Glass, is expected to be released in a few weeks.
Based on the usual Apple calendar, iOS 26 should be published around September 15. It would be Monday after the iPhone 17, which takes place on September 9. Apple has acted in the same way in recent years, the next iOS being released a week after the presentation of new smartphones. Consequently, iOS 18.7 should be published this week or next week so that there are still “air” between versions.
Three iPhones remain on iOS 18
Alternatively, it is also conceivable that Apple can offer iOS 18.7 and iOS 26 for parallel download to repair at least certain security vulnerabilities closed in iOS 26 in iOS 18.7. This year, some well -known iPhone models will no longer be supported by Apple. The iPhone XS, XS Max and XR are no longer compatible with iOS 26 and will remain on iOS 18. The models were launched in mid-September 2018, so they will soon be seven years old.
Apple normally updates its operating systems in two steps: the current one is maintained with all the corrections and new features, while the previous one still receives security fixes. In some cases, his predecessor also receives bug corrections if they are sufficiently serious and dangerous. Unfortunately, it is always difficult to properly connect Apple to really all the gaps in the previous version of the current operating system. There are generally still a few in the latest version. It is therefore advisable to stay up to date.
