As a person who covers consumer technology to make a living, I can use a few dozen smartphones each year. Although I almost always recommend on what is the new best smartphone, the majority of consumers do not upgrade each year. I have friends and family who tell me that they don’t want to upgrade and ask: “How can I make my phone current faster?” I finally have an answer.

I do not use revision devices for a long time, but I took advice and years of experience that can help increase the speed of your old Android phone. Before asking, this does not imply your device. These tips are easy to implement for consumers informed in technology and the average Joe.

If your Android phone has started to feel slow, you should mainly focus on cleaning its storage. And if you don’t know where to start, here are some things you can do to speed up your old Android phone.

1. Delete unused applications

Over time, phones can collect many unused applications and leave you with a congested space. You may have used a QR scanner application from a restaurant during your old trip or a photo retouching application that is no longer used. It is best to uninstall these applications to erase the space on your Android phone.

Disclosure of your Android phone can make it more quickly because it will not need to allocate resources to applications that are no longer used. The uninstalling of these APKs will lead to better management of resources and therefore a faster phone. You can access Settings> Storage> Applications to see the list of installed applications and uninstall the ones you no longer need. On the application screen, you can also press such forgotten applications and access the application information> Uninstall.

2. Erase more storage

Old Android phones tend to collect a lot of waste, whether through files or photos for a long time forgotten school notes. After deleting unused applications, you must aim to erase the space by browsing the files and photos saved on your Android phone.

You can access your phone’s file application to check what is saved. The download folder often houses the most information from PDF files forgotten for a long time, photos, etc. There are two other spaces that you should check to erase storage.

  • Unload your phone photos and save them on an external player or the cloud. This allows you to create a backup of your memories and to free up space on your old Android phone.
  • Erase the application cache. For the no, the cache is a piece of data that an application records, so it is faster to operate the next time you open it. I recommend erase the cache for less used applications without registered connection information. You can access the settings> Storage> App> Erase the cache to save more space.

3. Check updates

Once you have deleted uninstalled applications and updated your old Android phone to the latest version of the operating system, you should go to the Google Play Store and update the remaining applications. It is important to use the latest available versions of these applications to have access to the latest features, better performance and improved safety.

4. Bonus: Adjust the animation speed

You can activate or deactivate a few settings so that your phone feels faster, including developer options to change the animation speed. This is slightly more complicated than the rest of the parameters mentioned above, but it can make your phone much faster.

You must activate the developer’s options by going to Settings> About the phone> Press software information>, then press your generation number seven times. This should allow the developer’s options, so you can access different animation scale parameters.

Now go to the drawing section in the developer’s options and scroll down until you find the window animation scale. Press it and set the animation on 0.5x, so that contextual applications and windows work more quickly.

You can also adjust the transition animation scale to minimize the movement speed between the home screen panels and the applications. In addition, minimize the presenter of the animator to create opening and closing applications, unlock the phone and other general user interface animations plus SNAPP.

The modification of these settings will give your old Android phone a new life. Once adjusted, it should be faster, with an additional zipper in daily tasks. If you want to give it a refreshment, I recommend that you play with your home screen, modify the wallpaper and adjust more settings to help it last longer.
