Kazakhstan unveils plans for the cryptographic city


The government plans to authorize the regulated traffic of cryptocurrencies in a new digital center designed to stimulate the adoption of blockchain.

Kazakhstan takes front with a daring initiative to integrate cryptocurrency into daily payments by launching a pilot zone called Cryptocics. President Tokayev announced the project as a sandbox for cryptographic legal payments at Astana International Forum 2025.

The city of Alatau is currently the main candidate to welcome cryptocicity. Recognized for its scientific research facilities and special economic zones, Alatau offers an existing technological infrastructure which makes it a solid competitor.

Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development of Kazakhstan, said that the area would support the legal circulation of cryptocurrencies. It will operate under crypto friendly legislation.

Managers believe that the project could attract developers, programmers and IT specialists, stimulating local economic growth. Kazakhstan has already tested a digital currency from the central bank, which has helped to speed up VAT reimbursement processes.

With the cryptocicity currently under development, the country aims to become a regional blockchain innovation leader.
