Lenovo Group Ltd. is striving to become the workhorse of the artificial intelligence industry after unveiling a range of new enterprise server systems specifically aimed at AI inference workloads.
The new servers are the latest additions to Lenovo’s Hybrid AI Advantage portfolio. They highlight how the AI industry is moving away from its focus on training increasingly powerful language models for use in real-world applications. Inference refers to the process by which trained AI models make predictions and decisions and generate answers based on data and inputs they have never seen before – where the AI model hits the road.
Lenovo said its goal is to help companies turn their significant investments in AI training into tangible business revenue. To do this, its servers are offered alongside its new AI inference software, focused on unifying and connecting organizations’ data from multiple environments so that it can be leveraged by AI models.
The new servers are led by the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR675i, which is the company’s new AI inference powerhouse. It is powered by the latest Blackwell graphics processing units from Nvidia Corp. and designed to run large language models anywhere and at scale to support the largest AI workloads and accelerate AI simulation in industries ranging from healthcare to manufacturing and financial services.
There is also the new Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650i, which provides accelerated AI inference power with high-density GPU computing and is designed to be installed in existing data center environments. Finally, the Lenovo ThinkEdge SE455i is a compact model intended for deployments in smaller edge locations in the retail, telecommunications, and industrial sectors to enable AI inference at the edge. They are designed for low latency and feature a robust design that allows them to operate in temperatures between -5°C and 55°C.
Each of the new servers features Lenovo’s proprietary Neptune air and liquid cooling technology, and they are available through the company’s TruScale pay-as-you-go pricing model, making them accessible to a wider range of businesses.
Ashley Gorakhpurwalla, executive vice president of Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group, said data must be transformed into AI insights as soon as it is created. “With Lenovo’s new inference-optimized infrastructure, we are providing our customers with this advantage in real time,” he said. “We transform massive amounts of data into instant, actionable insights that fuel stronger decisions, greater security and faster innovation. »
Alongside the new servers, Lenovo announced new Hybrid AI Factory services, including a new Inference Board that provides hardware deployment and management assistance to optimize the performance of AI workloads.
