This next-generation version comes shortly after the October commercial launch of Protégé General AI.

AL asked Lexis what it was specifically different from what existed before. They said: “There are several key updates since the initial launch of Protégé General AI:

  1. Underlying platform with a new agentic infrastructure that enables AI agents to collaborate and reason through complex legal AI workflows that require a deep understanding of diverse data sources. Agents can plan dynamically, follow multi-step workflows, and handle complex issues without losing context. This is an evolution of traditional RAG-based systems.
  2. General AI now manages various data sources, including LexisNexis content + open web content + customer content. The user can select the source of the content.
  3. “Best Fit” mode which automatically selects the model best suited to the user’s task.
  4. The user can also choose the latest general purpose model available, including the latest models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others, as they become available.
  5. Users have the option to choose throughout the experience (automatic or manual choice of template as well as content source) for legal projects and higher-level work outputs. In other words, it is currently the most integrated AI workflow solution for legal professionals.
