LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man accused of murdering his grandmother told police he heard “AI voices” before and after the killing, according to a newly obtained arrest report.
Las Vegas Metro Police officers responded to the 2200 block of East Desert Inn Road around 8:17 a.m. on Dec. 29, 2025, after receiving a call requesting a welfare check for 75-year-old Reyna Flores De Hernandez. Police said the caller said Reyna’s grandson, Franklin Flores, 41, told his wife she “was in heaven.”
Arriving officers entered the home and discovered her body on the bed, covered with blankets. Medical teams later identified several serious injuries caused by sharp objects, according to investigators.
As family members began arriving at the scene, officers made contact with Flores’ wife, who was tracking his location. Using this data, Henderson Police Department officers were able to locate Flores on Pittman Wash Trail and took him into custody.
During an interview with police, investigators noted that Flores “expressed delusions” about other employees at the Amazon warehouse where he worked. He claimed they were “engaging in human trafficking” and “harming his wife and children.” According to the report, this caused Flores to leave his home because he believed his wife was also trying to steal money from him.
Flores told officers that prompted him to move in with his grandmother, where the delusions persisted, according to investigators. “…He believed Reyna was involved in a plot to steal his money and that she supported Amazon employees who opposed him.”
The report continues: “Franqulin explained that AI and his informants were talking to Reyna, saying he could hear them whispering. »
Flores claimed another Amazon employee told him about a “mission” that would spare the lives of his wife and children, but he thought his grandmother was sabotaging him.
That night, investigators say he entered his grandmother’s bedroom with a hatchet and gave her a kiss on the forehead before hitting her several times.
Flores told police he continued to live with his grandmother’s body in the apartment “until AI voices told him time was up.” He also told police he had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, but he believes he was “misdiagnosed” and is not taking any prescribed medication.
Flores faces an open charge of murder in the death of his grandmother, according to court records. He appeared in court for the first time since his arrest Monday morning.
