OpenAI has finally launched the Sora video app on Android. Now users can use the app to create AI videos with the Sora 2 AI template. The AI startup released the app on the Apple App Store last month and immediately saw thousands of users try their hand at creating AI slop.
Bill Peebles, head of Sora at OpenAI, posted on X that the app is now available for download on Android. The app currently remains limited to certain regions, including the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
OpenAI had hinted at an Android version in recent weeks, as well as major updates to the app, including video montages and pet cameos.
You can use Sora without an invite code
Since the app’s release on iOS, users had to obtain an invitation code to join the platform. However, on October 30, OpenAI announced that, for a limited time, new users in the United States, Canada, Japan, and South Korea could join Sora without an invite code.
This period corresponds perfectly to the Android version. Users in these regions on Android can now try their hand at creating AI videos without having to wait for an invite code.
Features of Sora AI video generation app
Sora can create videos from text prompts only. Users can include their friends or even other users in their videos, given that they have opted for the cameo feature. Shark Tank veteran Mark Cuban is one of the few celebrities who has also made his AI character available for Sora videos.
You can also create cameos of pets or other objects in your videos. The company has hinted that it will soon add a way for users to earn money through the platform.
There is a limit to the number of videos a user can create on the app daily. ChatGPT Pro subscribers receive 100 videos per day, while the rest of the users, whether free or ChatGPT Plus, only receive 30 videos per day. However, you can buy additional video tokens at $4 (around Rs 350) for 10 videos.
Users can also create character videos. Recently, a group of Japanese publishers warned OpenAI to stop using Japanese content, including Ghibli art, to train Sora.
