Tl; DR
- Google is working on a new feature that will allow you to share live videos with emergency services.
- It seems that the functionality will work similarly to the live video SOS function that Apple introduced to iOS 18 last year.
- It is not clear if this feature will be exclusive to pixels or available for all Android devices.
Pixel phones offer a range of features that can be useful in an emergency. For example, there is detection of the car accident, security control, crisis alerts, etc. To add to this list of emergency features, Google can draw inspiration from Apple.
An emergency functionality exclusive to pixel owners is the recording and sharing of emergency videos. This allows the user to save and save video up to 45 minutes. If you have emergency contacts set up, a link to video will be automatically sent 15 seconds after stopping the registration to the people you have chosen to be your contacts. Your emergency contacts can then use the link to download the video within seven days.
Apple, on the other hand, adopts a different approach to emergency video recording. Introduced in iOS 18 last year, Apple has a functionality called Emergency SOS Live Video. The function allows a user to broadcast live videos or send photos to an emergency distributor if the distributor sends a request. This video is not recorded on your device, but a distributor can choose to save it.
Currently, the Google solution does not allow you to broadcast live with a distributor. It will not automatically send a link to your video to emergency services. But it seems that it could change in the near future.

While examining version 25.35.34 beta from Google Play Services, we met a few interesting lines of code. These lines of code describe a feature that looks very much like Apple’s live SOS Video. You can “share the live video” and “emergency services will use your camera to see this emergency”.
Code
Share
Emergency services will use your camera to view this emergency. They may also record it.
Share live video?
This will stop sharing live video with emergency services.
Keep sharing
Stop live video?

As mentioned above, the existing video recording and sharing function is something that is exclusive to Pixel phones. Since these channels were found in Google Play Services, this will raise the question: will this feature be available for all Android devices? The answer is not clear at the moment.
