TL;DR
- AI-generated app review summaries appear on the Play Store.

The essence of generative AI, when boiled down, is to absorb existing information and then disseminate it in other forms. This process can be extremely complex, as in the case of generative video, but at the simpler end of the spectrum, AI can be very useful for analyzing large bodies of text to create concise summaries. Google has started using its AI in the latter way on the Play Store, where you’ll soon see AI-generated summaries of aggregated user app reviews.
We were able to enable these AI-generated review summaries in the Play Store over a year ago, but now they’re starting to appear widely, with no manipulation required. Once these summaries are deployed to your account, you will see a message in bold Users say in the Ratings & Reviews section of Play Store app listings that have enough reviews. Each summary takes the form of a single paragraph that attempts to highlight the positive and negative points common to user reviews of this application.
We’re seeing AI-generated app rating summaries in Play Store version 48.5.23-31, but not on all of our devices (nothing on my Pixel 9 Pro yet). This is what review summaries look like in action.
Below the text summary, you’ll find a selection of bullet points that allow you to explore reviews that mention certain aspects of the app.

Review summaries are a common and relatively useful application of AI. Apple rolled out similar review summaries for the iOS App Store in April, and Amazon has also been offering AI-generated product review summaries for some time.
