IOS 26 Advanced fingerprint protection

Apple had announced to WWDC 2025 that the advanced protection function of fingerprints would be extended to all default navigation. This feature is not new because it was previously deployed for the private navigation tabs with the iOS 17 in September 2023. But with the iOS 26, it will be available for all the Safari tabs, from September.

Footprints are a terrible activity carried out by companies to monitor a user’s activity on the web. It is therefore like a digital digital imprint which is generated according to the user activity on their device, including specific parameters, personalized fonts and third -party browser extensions.

This form of follow -up remains even after erased the cache, history and storage. The protection function of advanced digital fingerprints comes into play here because it provides random information and changes hardware and software details instead of displaying real user data, which makes it difficult for companies to follow users.

Apple is not the only one to do so, because in 2020, its competitor Firefox brought this functionality to its browser where the third party asks companies that fingerprint users are blocked.
