It seems that Samsung is building a new alternative to Android Auto called “Auto Dex” which supports a user interface optimized by the car, and could even work when your car does not support it.
It was demonstrated earlier this year that “Samsung Auto” exists for certain markets, mainly China, as an alternative to Android Auto. But, apparently, Samsung has an extended option in progress.
Self -proclaimed “a user interface geek” @Galaxtechie discovered a New Samsung software feature called “Auto Dex”. The functionality would support “8,500+ car models” of more than a hundred brands and has a Android Auto / Carplay user interface. There is a central dashboard which seems to show a card with a shortcut of musical playlist towards the right side above a musical control widget. On the far left, a vertical task bar shows the time, a list of applications and a shortcut of application drawer. The applications indicated include Bixby, a map application, a musical application and the Samsung telephone application.
In particular, the screenshot also shows a second bar of tasks at the bottom of the screen with the navigation with three pimples of Samsung. Presumably, that Maty has something to do with the mention that Galaxy Techie claims that you can use “Auto Dex” “with a few tips” on your phone even if your car does not support it or if you don’t have a car “.
Update 7/13: In a new thread@Galaxtechie shows this experience in depth, and also says that it is a combination of “Samsung Auto” and Dex, rather than a new product. This is why you can see two task bars at a time, but you can mask the Dex taskbar if you wish.
The new screenshots also include additional parameters such as light and dark themes, the possibility of changing wallpaper and options to modify the widgets on the dashboard. The background color of the applications changes to match the wallpaper.
There is a lot Questions about this, including when such a functionality would make its debut, where it would be available, and what type of application medium it would have. But, assuming that we read this correctly and that you can perform this on the screen of your phone, it would be a welcome replacement for the “Android Auto experience for phone screens” that Google closed a few years ago.
What do you think of “Auto Dex” according to this first glance?
