Tl; DR
- Samsung seems to deactivate the start -up charger unlock in an IU 8 on more devices than before.
- Previously, only the American models did not have the OEM unlocking change, but the restriction now seems to be propagating also to the world models.
- A contributor on XDA developers Note that Samsung probably deletes the code necessary to completely unlock the start -up chargers.
Samsung could quietly lock his phones even more closely with the One Ui 8 update. A new report of A XDA developers donor reveals that Samsung seems to delete the possibility of unlocking the start -up charger on more devices, including the international versions that previously supported it.
Samsung phones in the United States already do not change the “OEM unlocking” in developer options, effectively preventing users from unlocking the start-up charger and installing personalized ROMs. But now it seems that this restriction can apply on a global scale.
What has changed?
The contributor, Salvo_giangri, discovered that Samsung added a line to the configuration of the start -up charger: Androidboot.other.locked = 1
This line indicates to the Android system if the device is authorized to unlock the start -up charger. If it is defined on 1, the Settings application will not even display the OEM option, which is the first step to unlock a phone.
In the latest one UI 8 firmware, this line is present even on non -American devices, indicating that the restriction is no longer specific to the region.
Samsung can kill the start-up charger unlock with an 8 user interface. Do you care?

We have verified and can confirm that our non -American Galaxy Z Fold 7 has the “OEM unlocking” tipping in developer options. Some people think it could be a mistake on the part of Samsung. However, those who execute the beta one UI 8 version also report that the option is absent from their devices.
Unlocking the start -up charger is essential for amateurs and developers who wish to install ROM or personalized nuclei, obtain full root access to their devices or further personalize their phones.
If you are someone who likes to customize your phone or appreciate the freedom to tinker with Android, this is a significant step back compared to Samsung. Anyone who plans to update a 8 user interface or buy a new Samsung device running Android 16 should know that this restriction can apply to its devices. That said, we will contact Samsung for an official confirmation on the issue.
For the moment, the start-up charger on your current Samsung devices that do not perform a user interface 8 should always be unlocking, but with new updates and devices, this may no longer be the case.
