Apple deployed notification summaries fueled by AI as part of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18 last year. On paper, the functionality seemed promising, using AI to provide a quick summary of your unread notifications. But in practice, it turned out to be such a great disaster that Apple had to temporarily remove the functionality and finally extinguish it for a selected category of applications. However, this disaster has not dissuaded Samsung from experimenting with a similar characteristic for its galaxy phones, as spotted in a disclosed UI test construction.
A new version of UI 8.5 disclosed for the Galaxy S25 Ultra contains a notification summary function. It is automatically triggered the first time you expand the notification panel in the skin, showing a contextual window which says that “longer conversations can now be summarized to give quick summons”.
If you press the Activate parameters Option, you are taken to a page where Samsung explains that summaries will use a disk AI to condense long messages and group conversations (via @Sammobile). This guarantees that there is no risk of confidentiality, because your messages and their content are not shared with Samsung or third -party servers.
Google was also spotted by working on notification summaries fed by AI within the framework of Android 16 Beta 3, but the functionality has never been brought to public construction.
Like Apple, Samsung will provide an option to exclude applications from notification summaries. By default, however, the functionality is supposed to be activated for all the installed applications. It also warns that, as summaries will use AI, it can sometimes make mistakes. We do not know to what extent the notification summaries of Samsung fed by Samsung work, because the functionality is not functional in the current beta of the 8.5 user interface.
However, with the understanding of the stronger gemini language than Apple Intelligence, notification summaries in a user interface 8.5 could provide more precise and reliable summary of non -read messages and long notifications.
A user interface 8.5 seems to be a major update
Samsung recently deployed an IU 8 based on Android 16 for its flagship devices. Despite the big version of the version number, the skin has only introduced minor changes and new features.
Based on all leaks so far, an 8.5 user interface seems to be a larger update and could include user interface adjustments, a more customizable quick parameter and new AI features. The skin should make its debut on the Galaxy S26 series early next year before moving to other Galaxy devices.
