Diving insight:
Under pressure from Trump, the Senate and the Republican leaders of the Chamber rush to pass the legislation through the finish line by the holidays of July 4.
In May, the Chamber narrowly adopted a version of the bill with a provision to freeze the regulation of the State for 10 years. Before the bill reached the president’s office for his signature, the two chambers of the congress must resolve the differences between their versions.
The Senate bill adopted a vote of 51 to 50, with all the Republicans except three supporting the measure. Vice-president JD Vance expressed the revolutionary vote.
Before the vote, Cruz looked without success to consolidate the support of the compromise AI language. He agreed to reduce the moratorium period proposed to five years instead of 10. He also agreed to exempt certain laws from the moratorium, including those designed to regulate misleading acts or practices, online security of children and protection of the name, image, voice or resemblance of a person.
Monday morning, the American secretary for trade Howard Lutnick praised the updated language, Call it a “pragmatic compromise” Between Cruz and Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.
But, in a surprise decision, Blackburn then rejected the provision of compromises, saying that it was still “not acceptable”. She said that “would allow Big Tech to continue to exploit children, creators and conservatives”.
