iOS 26.4 is expected to introduce a revamped version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence, but not everyone is happy with how it works.
In his To light up newsletter today, BloombergApple’s Mark Gurman said some Apple software engineers were “concerned” about the performance of the revised Siri. However, he did not provide any specific details about the shortcomings.
iOS 26.4 will likely be released in March or April, so Apple still has about five to six months to resolve lingering issues with the voice assistant.
When the new Siri was first revealed at WWDC 2024, Apple announced that it would have three main features: on-screen recognition, personal context, and in-app controls. For example, Apple showed an iPhone user asking Siri about her mother’s flight booking and lunch plans, based on information from the Mail and Messages apps.
The new Siri was originally supposed to debut with iOS 18.4 last year, but Apple delayed it. In July, Apple CEO Tim Cook said his company was making “good progress” on the more personalized Siri, and that the features were on track to launch next year. However, if the issues persist, even the launch of iOS 26.4 might not be guaranteed.
