Eastern police in Spain are investigating a 17 -year -old boy suspected of using artificial intelligence to create and share false naked images from his classmates whom he intended to sell online.
Guardia civil officers in the Ribera Alta district of Valencia began to investigate last year after a student reported the creation of a social media account in his name which included a video generated by AI.
Guardia Civil said in a statement on Sunday: “Photos of various people, all minors, appeared on this story. All these photos had been modified from the originals, which had been manipulated so that the people who were seemed completely naked.”
The same girl reported a second social media account in her name, as well as other accounts that showed naked videos generated by AI, and a web page dedicated to image advertising for commercial purposes.
After 15 other minors presented similar complaints, the police began to suspect that the person behind the fake images and videos was one of the girl’s classmates.
By pampering publications on social networks, by contacting accommodation companies and examining an advertising website for IA image modification services, the police took the track of the suspect.
Guardia Civil said: “The agents have obtained information on users and the access used on these platforms – including IP addresses – which led to the home of one of the complainants’ classmates. They also confirmed that the emails used to create the accounts belonged to the same person.”
The Guardia Civil said that a 17 -year -old boy was the subject of an investigation suspected of corrupt minors, adding that a Valencia youth court supervises the case.
Last year, 15 minors from the southwest region of the Spanish extremes were sentenced to a year-long probation after being found guilty of having used AI to produce false naked images of their classmates, which they had shared on Whatsapp groups.
The defendants also received the order to attend rates of awareness of sexes and equality, and on “responsible use of technology”.
The court said in a press release: “The sentence notes that minors were used to use artificial intelligence requests to obtain manipulated images of manipulated [other minors] By taking the original faces of the girls of their social media profiles and by superimposing these images on the body of naked female bodies. The photos handled were then shared on two WhatsApp groups. »»
The Malvaluna association, which acted on behalf of the affected families, said the case had implications for a broader Spanish company. “Beyond this particular essay, these facts should make us think about the need to educate people on equality between men and women”, the association said to the online newspaper Eldiario.es at the time.
He indicated that the case underlined the need for good sex education in school so that children have not learned the sex of pornography, which “generates more sexism and violence”.
In March, the Spanish socialist oriented government declared that it was working on a Law that would help protect young people online By treating grooming on the Internet and using non -consensual sexual images created by AI as criminal offenses.
