Telegram has released a new beta update to Android that adds a bit of Liquid Glass, and users aren’t too happy about it.
In Telegram for Android v12.2.0, the app officially introduces “Liquid Glass”. This appears in the text input bar as well as the emoji, GIF, and sticker panels. The rest of the app is largely unaffected by the UI change.
The change has not yet made it to the stable release channel, but it can be disabled through the “Energy Saver” settings, where Telegram directly calls it “Liquid Glass”.
Comparing the stable design to the last update, the changes are relatively minor.
Yet users don’t like it. The initial beta that introduced this change has over 500 downvotes on the Telegram beta channel, which represents a considerable portion of the channel’s total subscribers. As such, it’s not entirely clear whether this change will be applied to all users, but we’ll have to wait and see.
In particular, Telegram added Liquid Glass designs to its iOS app earlier this month, even for users who are not on iOS 26.
