Tl; DR
- Google cleans Android’s “Sound & Vibration” settings in the next Android 16 QPR1 update.
- Instead of a long list, the new arrangement is full of settings in distinct categories such as “holy motives” and “audio”.
- Volume cursors also get a modern design, while other options are moved to make the page less congested.
After more than 16 years of development, the Android operating system is full of features. If they were not organized, navigate them would be a waste. For a long time, it’s exactly what the Android sound settings page looked like, but Google finally cleans it in the next quarterly version of Android 16.
After installing Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 on our Pixel apparatus, we noticed that the Settings> Sound and vibration The menu received a major cleaning. Instead of presenting each parameter in a single vertical list, the last Android 16 QPR1 Beta separates them by category. For example, the “phone ringing”, the “default notification sound” and the “default sound of the alarm” are now grouped in a new “Sound Match” section. Meanwhile, the “space audio” and “media” elements are under a new “audio” section. The five -volume cursors remain at the top of the page, but they have been updated with the expressive design of the more modern material 3 in the volume panel. In addition, the “audio play” entry will no longer be awkwardly found between the media and the volume of call sliders, but has been moved at the top.
Here is a gallery showing the Sound & Vibration Settings page in Android 16 against Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2:
And if that is not enough to present the difference, here is a list that shows how this page was not organized before and after the update to Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2:

I am happy to see Google finally start to store the sound settings of Android in Android 16 QPR1. This is something I complain about In 2023, as I noticed, Google reorganized many other pages of the Settings application while leaving the sound & vibration page intact. The expressive redesign of equipment 3, which places menu elements in separate cards, greatly contributes to making the application of the parameters less congested. However, the Sound & Vibration page previously undermined this while keeping all its options in a long vertical list. Although the new page still has too many parameters in the “SYSTAL Sounds & Vibrations” section at the bottom, it is much better than before.
