With the dust set from the media threshing around the Apple WWDC 2025 event, I took a step back to really look at what could be some of the most useful updates to come to their different operating systems, mainly because, very often, there are updates or added features that we simply do not use.
Today, I want to highlight some elements which, as a heavy user of the iPhone, the Mac and the iPad, have excited me for the iOS 26, MacOS 26 Tahoe and iPados 26 outings in the fall.
And yes, Android users, I am aware that there are a lot of features that you have had on your phones for some time that have just gone to iPhones.
But rarely, on each side of the argument, a new smartphone offers enough for someone to completely change ecosystems. So congratulations, you win something, I suppose.
Detection tools in messages
The first feature tackles something that torments us every day: unwanted texts which often turn out to be scams. Apple addresses this in iOS 26 with screening tools in messages.
With the detection of disc spam, the texts of unrecognized numbers which are probably spam will be filtered from your reception box and sent to a separate page.
Even better, Apple says that you will always get important messages you need, such as an SMS catering system that your table is ready or a pin number to connect to an account, because you have forgotten your password again.
Increase
In the updated telephone application of iOS 26, maintain the assistance generated immediately. In theory, it is one of the biggest announcements of the event in terms of convenience.
I do not know for you, but I do everything possible to avoid everything that involves sitting on hold while waiting for customer service. With Hold Assist, you can keep your place online on the phone and take care of other things while waiting.
When there is a live voice at the other end, your phone will inform you to come back to the call and let the other end to the other end that you will be there shortly. Cross fingers, it works well because it looks like a dream.
Orders monitoring in the portfolio
Taking convenience, an application that we use a lot, but that we probably neglect is the wallet, especially now that most places allow TAP to pay. With digital IDs and virtual car keys, you hardly need a physical wallet when you leave the house.
When you think about it, we are late for additional features in the Wallet application. For frequent travelers, with your flight boarding passes in the portfolio, you can now access the application airport cards, which is of great help, especially during fast steepness.
For online purchases, Apple Intelligence can now scan your reception box for e-mails of retailers or delivery services and follow these orders. If you are like me, there is always a confidentiality problem. I have certainly never signed up for third -party applications that scan the reception box, but Apple has a solid reputation to prioritize the confidentiality of users.
Organization of iPados files
Beyond the iPhone, iPad and iPados 26 probably deserve the most attention. The headliner finally obtains an experience more similar to Mac with a new window system and a customizable arrangement.
But what attracted my attention was the organization of files. As a photographer who does a lot of editing on the iPad, I must be able to record different photos on different files and move photos between the devices in a clean and organized manner.
It seems minor, but having a list view where you can easily identify the types of files go very far. The same goes for the possibility of adding files to the quay. If there is a set of files that must frequently be accessible, it is much easier to find.
This is logical since for several years, the iPads have had a large part of the same treatment power as the Macs with the Muen Silicon chips. We can run really powerful applications on the iPad. Now it’s a little more functional.
It is still not a complete laptop replacement, in my opinion, if you are a power user that does a lot of video editing or advanced work. But for travel, I can take an iPad now and know that I can do for everything I would do if I was traveling with a Mac instead.
Local video and audio capture
Also in the late but super useful department: local capture for audio and video. It’s great for creators or anyone who needs best quality meetings.
Of course, you can record your zoom or team meetings via their software, but it is often of low quality. Now, with the local capture function on the iPad, you can only record your own video and audio, with an echo cancellation blocking other participants. If necessary, you can share the better quality clips with anyone after the meeting or maintenance.
Live translation
Finally, and I know it was available elsewhere, the translation live. Remember when I said that there is generally no feature that would make me blow up the ship from a smartphone ecosystem to another? Well, it got closer when I saw it on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra at the beginning of 2024.
In the typical manner of Apple, they distribute the translation live on several operating systems. Thanks to Apple Intelligence, it is available in FaceTime and telephone calls, via messages on several devices, including Apple Watch, and even in Apple Music, with lyric translation and pronunciation.
Whether it is to order food, communicate with friends and family in another country or work through borders, this is incredibly useful. If nothing else, it helps Apple Intelligence to catch up with other AI features already proposed by competitors.
There, I said it.
