Eleanor Mueller: Have you planned the Rebellion of Freedom Caucus which occurred during your legislation on the Central Bank digital currency earlier this week?
Rep. Tom emmer: I was frankly flattered. It is imperative that it becomes the law – because even if the president has made it illegal, he still works there. The Fed always works on it; You still have different universities that work there. We should never be like the Chinese Communist Party. The Digital Yuan is the most evil and most despicable authoritarian regime control tool you can have. We are better than that, and we should never want this.
I was surprised when they brought it to the next level and said, “We need a 100% guarantee that it will be the law”. It was the discussion yesterday because a group had an idea of how to do it; Another group had a different idea of how to do it. But you could not give anyone a 100%guarantee, because once you have transmitted it to the Senate, they will have to involve seven democrats.
After all this discussion, everyone was content to put the EMMER Anti-CBDC surveillance Act Act on the Authorization of National Defense. It is therefore the best opportunity.
Initially, he should probably be a republican vote only to start. But as soon as we have reached this magic number of 218, or whatever the strength of the room, I think you will see the Democrats who support both NDAA and the anti-surveillance law start to get on board.
What insurance did the Senate give this week, both in terms of promoting the prohibition of the CBDC and a regulatory overhaul?
It was represented to me that Tim Scott is absolutely determined to fight for this. (John) Barrasso is committed to fighting for this. (John) Thune will absolutely give him a serious consideration on how they could help.
And then it was our chair, which was very graceful. I mean, Mike Rogers did not have to say yes to that. He had a bill that came out of the NDAA committee with two dissident votes, right? He did not have to consent to it. He has. And now, when he works with his counterpart on the other side, Roger Wicker, I understand that they will work hard to keep it.
But you cannot give anyone a 100% warranty when human beings are involved and you are talking about the legislative process.
What does the new calendar look like to adopt the two bills, since the NDAA will probably pass in December and that the Senate says that it wants to pass its regulatory overhaul this fall?
The Senate will probably take until December, but it will be issued from the room in early September. That it soothes the members, we will see – but it is the agreement.
Is it your impression so far that Trump will be as involved in the legislation on market structure as on the StableCoin bill?
Yeah. The president wants these three. He wants a genius now, because he is ready: “let’s put a victory on the board”.
One thing I saw yesterday – and it is not to denigrate the principles, the fundamental values of anyone, etc. – But you have people who have been working there for years, and you have other people who are like being presented there, and they both act as if they were the same experience. It is therefore a challenge – but it is overcome, because the president makes him very clear.
What was his message last night?
His message was, “What do you know better?” A victory. Let’s pass a victory.
Has Warren Davidson played a big role in provoking the Freedom caucus?
Yeah. Warren was strongly involved in the discussions yesterday, and I know that he talked directly about the president. So yes, Warren has a big role to play.
