I am a Diligent notes taker; I note reflections on the remarkable 2 and I use a physical notebook (from Leuchtturm1917) with a Lamy safari in the newspaper. I like the convenience and ease of use of the remarkable 2, and it is ideal to take notes while attending information sessions and organizing my task lists.
Last month, however, I use a new product: the Flowtica scribe. It is an ordinary pen that has an integrated microphone that allows you to record meetings and conversations, and connects to a mobile application to automatically transcribe these records and generate summaries. The scribe has a barrel design that looks like any other pen, and it’s not so heavy either. There are pogo pins on the back, and you get a button at the top with one side. That said, the scribe is quite decent in its own right, and you get five recharges included in the box.
It is easy to start with the scribe recording function: simply hold the upper button for two seconds. The tiny LED located next to Pogo pins flashes red to indicate that the device saves, and once you have finished, press the button again for two seconds.
You can press the button on the side to note the key moments of a meeting – the functionality is nicknamed Flowmark – and it becomes a digital highlight. The integrated recorder is very good and he had no problem picking up the audio. It is designed to be used in meetings, so I turned to him by attending briefings of recent products, and he did a good job by highlighting individual speakers.
You will need to use the Flowtica application to access the stored data and, during writing, it is only available on iOS. Flowtica notes that he also offers an Android application, but it was not available in the test window. My favorite scribe feature is its ability to automatically transcribe audio to text; Although there are many tools that do it today, pure convenience is new.
The transcribed text is available in the Flowtica application, and it analyzes the text to also provide summaries generated by the AI. They are clever, but not something that I normally use – the usefulness of having transcribed text available a few moments after recording is what sells the scribe to me. You can also save your handwritten notes; Just take an image and download it to the application.
The AI is everywhere these days, and even if I am still ambivalent on most of the available public services, I regularly use transcription features, and the scribe does a great job in this regard.
