This is my favorite video editing application, and for a good reason

Although many applications have the same problems that I face in Capcut, I was able to find my new favorite – as well as some other recommendations.

Changes: My new favorite video editing application

When I decided to find the best video editing application for me, I didn’t really expect it Modification. After all, the latest Meta application published to compete with another service – Threads – proved to be disappointing and lacked many features that people wanted to see reproduced from Twitter.

But the modifications are actually really impressive – standing alone even by trying to reproduce the success of Capcut. First of all, the changes are completely free, which will attract many users (and which attracted my interest). But my hopes were conservative because I remember the first days to try to use Instagram video editing tools only for the application to freeze or block, even when it comes to a few short clips.

The modifications are actually really impressive – standing alone even by trying to reproduce the success of Capcut.

The modifications, however, did not disappoint. I was able to easily assemble clips, add transitions, add audio and record a voiceover without any problem. Another essential feature for me is the possibility of generating legends from voiceover – a feature that is often missing or locked behind a paid wall in other free video editing applications. But the changes include this functionality and allows you to change legends in several ways.

Although there are not many generative AI features, I actually prefer that. I prefer to have fewer high quality filters and effects to choose than a bunch of AI features that I will never use. I do not feel like I am bombed with features and prompts when I change a video in the changes. I can rather focus on the features that matter most to me.

Above all, the changes do not apply a watermark or force you to pay to remove it. It also does not allow you to share your video on Instagram. This means that it is a versatile tool that you can use for videos for a range of social media sites.

Other notable features include the possibility of adding a green screen effect, overlays, personalized text and stickers. When it comes to adding music, the changes provide many license tracks that you can use (although what does not record if you download your video rather than share it on Instagram.

Changes are held as a CAPCUT alternative

So, are the modifications simply a capcut clone? I would say that it goes further than the application that inspired it. It is thanks to truly impressive features, such as transitions. For example, the dissolution transition mixes two clips in an almost surrealist way – as if it merged clips rather than a simple transition. Dissolve is my favorite transition, but there are many smooth options to choose.

Another area where changes stand out is its quality of export. Free applications generally master export resolution at around 1080p, sometimes even 720p. But the modifications allows you to export to a 4K resolution up to 60 frames per second.

I was also impressed by the cutting function, which can detect an object in your video and add it in superposition to your clip. This feature includes monitoring objects, which means that even if your object moves, cutting can adapt to it. This allowed me to create funny mashups of videos of my cats.

What drawbacks have changes?

The changes avoid the traps of many free video editing applications, but that does not mean that it is without defects. First of all, it requires an Instagram account to use. I already use Instagram, so it was not really a compromise for me.

Another drawback is that the export of videos, even when using a flagship Android device and the use of a 1080p resolution, is slower than I want. But it is not so slow that I have the impression that it is a dealbreaker. Unlike Instagram, changes do not include models either.

For me, the biggest drawback is that it is a meta-application.

For me, the biggest drawback is that it is a meta-application. This means that there is no guarantee that it will not be monetized. Being the product of a large company means that modifications have many resources at its disposal, but Meta also has history to transform free products into advertisements. I hope the changes will remain among the best new applications for Android without adding any major warnings.

Are there other video editing applications that are worth trying?

Although changes are excellent application for me, it may not be the right choice for you. In this case, you may want to consider one of these alternatives:

  • Implying:: If you are looking for more AI features and more similarities with Capcut, it is worth trying Inshot. Although some features are paid, the premium plan is more affordable than most others and there is also the possibility of buying the application as purchasing once. You can also obtain temporary access to premium features by watching an ad. For example, I watched an ad from 30 seconds to remove the watermark from my video.
  • Adobe Express:: Adobe Express has an excellent balance of free features, while also including the possibility of modifying photos and creating conceptions. The user interface can be a bit clumsy and the workflow to add legends is not very intuitive, but the application does not include intrusive ads or watermark.
  • Vn:: VN has a lot of free features and gives you the opportunity to buy credits for AI features, which is more affordable than a recurring subscription. Although you can use credits to generate legends in the cloud, the switch to the option to treat locally legends allows you to use the feature for free. A major bonus is that he does not add a watermark.
  • You have:: You Cut is from the same company as Inshot, but allows you to export waterproof. You can also watch ads for premium features.
  • Blow of light:: If you want a mainly automated experience to edit videos, Lightcut is a good free option. It can automatically reduce clips and apply filters to your video, but other features such as automatic legends.

Among these applications, you will probably find a good option that suits your needs. For me, changes remain my favorite, because the models and features of AI are not at the heart of my workflow.
