Westbrook (WGME) – Westbrook police apologize after posting a photo alter from the AI of evidence from a drug arrest.
People online quickly called the photo as being manipulated by artificial intelligence.
The modified photo has some key differences compared to the real photo taken of evidence.
Westbrook police said the original photo was changed with Chatgpt to add the department’s logo to it, but they say they didn’t know that other articles on the photo.
The original photo came from a drug arrest on rue Brackett where the police found methamphetamine and fentanyl.
They say that the officer involved in the arrest wanted to add the department’s patch to the photo to identify the Westbrook police service as the arrest agency.
Thus, the officer used Chatgpt to create a new photo with the Westbrook patch.
They say that adding the logo is a standard procedure, but they generally use a physical correction included in the actual image, not a procedure generated via a software system.
After publishing the image on their social networks, commentators quickly spotted differences in photos, such as missing “cookies” stickers in the first photo, certain residue of deleted medications and the color of certain items have changed.
“When we look at and compare the two photos, it’s really weird about what this application did in the photo,” said Westbrook police captain Steven Goldberg. “As you mentioned, he got rid of these packed-out packaging, it completely redid the lettering of some of the packages and he seemed to modify some of the things we took photos. I know that we mentioned the spoon and the case, and we do not have a good explanation why. ”
Westbrook police said that he never intended to change the image of evidence, and they often publish photos like these on social networks to show that dangerous drugs have been removed from the community.
