Why am I a guy Google Pixel

I have been an Android guy for 15 years. Funny fact: I never owned an iPhone. I have been part of the Android team from the first day, and during this and a half decade, I used almost all the big brands you can think of – Samsung, LG, OnePlus, etc. But in recent years, I have been all in one brand: Google Pixel.

My current daily pilot is Google Pixel 9 Pro, and each time I need to use another phone for work, I find myself missing it immediately. But what about this phone, and the pixels that preceded it, which keeps me so locked up? After a lot of reflection, I realized that it comes down to a few key areas where Google regularly does me well, even if it is wrong.

It starts with the design

I take the design of smartphones very seriously. I realize that it is not common. Most people tell me that they don’t even care what a phone looks like or feels, because it “will just go in a case”, which I can’t discuss. However, I will always be obsessed with the conceptions of phones because this is what creates (or, most often, does not create) my emotional attachment.

With the pixels, I have almost always been a fan of the way Google designs them. Of course, there were missteps – the bathtub bathtub on the 3 XL pixel comes to mind – but overall, I think that pixels have always been some of the most beautiful phones. From Pixel 6, Google has looked into its design bar design, which is not only a daring and distinctive visual declaration but also wonderfully practical. In a sea of phones that seem frustrating, the camera bar is instantly recognizable. Better still, this prevents the phone from waving when I put it on a table – a bane that drives me crazy with other devices.

Google has not always nailed design, but in recent years it has really become itself.

The Pixel 9 Pro, in particular, has become my favorite design, mainly because it is a powerful phone in a manageable size. I know that a lot of Android fans like massive phones, but the Pixel 9 Pro strikes the Sweet Spot for me. It is comfortable to use one hand, which changes games for my daily use and made me feel more connected to the phone. It seems just in one way that no other device has.

Better yet, I do not feel like I’m making a sacrifice for this smaller size. Ignoring a slight difference in battery capacity, the Pixel 9 Pro is practically identical in specifications to the largest and more expensive Pixel 9 Pro XL. You get the same performance, the same display quality and the same versatile cameras. Currently, no other Android phone really offers this high -level experience without compromise in this form factor. In other words, the Pixel 9 Pro is the Goldilocks phone: Just.

The camera in which I can trust

If you follow the world of smartphone, you have heard that a thousand times: pixel cameras are fantastic. A huge reason for their success is to know how easy Google is to get a good luck. You don’t need to be a professional photographer; You can simply point, pull and be confident that you will get a photo that seems somewhere between fairly well and absolutely incredible.

You have heard a thousand times that pixels have large cameras, but what does that mean? For me, it means confidence, which is very important.

While most flagship phones can take superb photos these days, they often come with frustrating compromises. Samsung phones, for example, are known for the shutter shift – a delay between pressing the button and the photo during the plug. We have tested it largely to Android authorityAnd that can make the difference between capturing a perfect moment with a pet or a fast moving child – or miss it entirely. Samsung also tends to sute the colors, which makes the photos vibrant but unrealistic. Iphones, on the other hand, are often shipped with lower camera equipment compared to similar Android phones. Regardless of the amount of software magic you use, larger sensors and better objectives will almost always produce more detailed results.

What everything comes down is confidence. When I capture a precious memory, I can never come back, I don’t want to worry if the phone nails the photo. I want to point, pull and come back to live my life. I trust the pixels to do it more reliable than any other phone.

But that’s really all about the software

At the top of this list is the way he manages my phone calls. I hate Talking on the phone and will avoid it if I can. Features such as the call screen, which has Google Assistant response calls from unknown numbers for me, are invaluable. I can see a live transcription of the conversation and decide if it is important enough to take over. Likewise, Hold for me is a life buoy. He waits waiting for me and plays an alert when a real person is finally back on the line. They are not gadgets; These are practical characteristics that make my life easier.

Smartphones can do a lot of big things, but there are so many things that a pixel may do that no other phone can.

Another feature that I cannot live is the advanced voice typing Gbord. Although Gbord is available everywhere, the experience on one pixel is at another level. It is much more precise, automatically adds punctuation while I speak and allows me to switch transparently between seizure and speech. He even understands when I want to add an emoji and can send a message when I finished, which makes him really free. For someone who constantly uses text voice, there is simply no return.

And of course, there is the main advantage of obtaining the latest version of Android on the first day and knowing that I have support up to seven years. As an Android enthusiast, I always want the latest features as soon as they are stable, and having a pixel is the only way to guarantee this – without becoming an unpaid beta tester for another smartphone company anyway.

The pixels are not perfect, and it’s okay

Ok, so this whole article is just me praising pixels, but I’m not blind to their faults. The tensor processor, although well for daily tasks, cannot compete with high -end snapdragon fleas in raw performance and efficiency. It is undeniable. Pixels also tend to operate hot with high use and to have slower load speeds than many competitors. Pixels are expensive from a specific / value ratio, and they are not available in as many countries as competitors. There are tons of problems that I cannot deny.

But I am comfortable with these compromises for two main reasons. First of all, no phone is perfect. Each device has its own compromise set. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a beast, but it is also massive and expensive. The OnePlus 13 is also great – I even think it could be the best of 2025 – but its camera system is not as consistent as pixels or even galaxy phones. It also comes only one size in most of the world: gigantic. The fact that the pixels are not perfect are not a dealbreaker because they constantly deliver the things that I personally care about the most.

The problems with pixels are real and significant, but the advantages prevail over these problems by a huge margin.

Second, and more importantly, after having invested deeply in the pixels and the widest by Google Ecosystem, I am not trapped. Apple is obviously the worst offender with this and its so-called “enclosed garden”, but Samsung is also guilty of locking engineering customers. Unlike other ecosystems, Google has not locked me up in its world. If I wanted to buy a OnePlus 13 tomorrow, my smartwatch would still work, my smart home devices would always be controllable and my digital life would continue almost unchanged. As Google does something that I don’t like, I can leave without a second reflection. Ironically, this freedom of locking makes me even more faithful to the world of pixels, because I know that I am there by choice.

In the end, being a “pixel guy” does not consist in believing that Google has created the objectively perfect device, because there is no such. It is a question of choosing the phone which regularly closes the features that count in the real world – the camera in which I trust with my precious memories, the software that makes my day really better and the conceptions that feel made to measure for the way I really use the product. Other phones can gain references or be better from the cost / value point of view, but the pixel wins my loyalty by making the human element. And in a world of closed gardens designed to trap you, there is a certain power to stay with the ecosystem which is confident enough to let you go. For me, it makes the choice clear. Now bring the Pixel 10 series!
