James Gunn New Superman costume: David Corenswet in costume

Superman’s new costume has officially debuted. As filming continues on James Gunn’s “Superman” (formerly “Superman: Legacy”), the writer-director shared on his Threads account a first look at star David Corenswet in the Man of Steel costume. The first thing fans might notice is that the suit is quite dirty and worn, suggesting that Superman will be doing a lot of dirty fighting in the film.

Gunn added on Threads that the first photo “was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in camera.”

Corenswet is getting the big break of his life as the star of “Superman,” which marks his first time leading a major Hollywood film. The 30-year-old actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Netflix series created by Ryan Murphy, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” Probably his most notable film role before “Superman” was “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror film starring Mia Goth.

Starring alongside Corenswet in “Superman” is Emmy winner “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult plays famous Superman villain Lex Luthor, while Gunn’s cast also includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced ( Hawkgirl). ) and more.

While it was initially titled “Superman: Legacy”, Gunn revealed in February that he had reduced the title to “Superman”. Around the same time, Gunn released the first cast photo from the film’s first script reading. Talk to Variety At the SAG Awards this year, Brosnahan said it was thrilling to hear Gunn’s words out loud.

“It was pretty amazing,” Brosnahan said of the table reading. “Some of us met for the first time. Some of us were able to see each other again. It was amazing to hear the script out loud. Like all these films, there are a lot of action sequences and all that. So hearing the rhythm of the film and hearing these characters occupied by the actors playing them is really fun. They’re also a great band. You can’t ask for more when you’re doing something like this.

“I always loved Lois Lane,” the actor added. “She’s smart, ambitious and can be funny. She knows she’s the smartest person in the room most of the time. When the opportunity presented itself…I’m such a fan of James Gunn from afar…we always find these characters. We haven’t started filming yet. You will see the final version.

“Superman” is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025 by Warner Bros.
