In May, it was reported that the city of Davenport was considering submitting an application to the State of Iowa’s High Quality Jobs Program to build a large high-tech data center campus within the city limits. town, on the northwest corner of Hillandale Road and Enterprise Way. according to city documents. The project would include a property tax exemption and city officials say it would help create new “high-quality jobs,” defined as earning more than $28.76 an hour with benefits in Scott County.

Vemerald, a wholly owned subsidiary of Meta Platforms, Inc., will store and transfer user and customer data for their operating systems, according to Iowa Economic Development. The company plans to build a data center including offices, servers and support equipment. The project represents a capital investment of $800 million and is expected to create 35 jobs paying a qualifying wage of $28.76 per hour. The Council granted the City of Davenport the opportunity to use provisions of the High Quality Jobs (HQJ) program to obtain a value-added property tax exemption for this project.
