Netflix will host live NFL games this Christmas


“Last year, we decided to go big on live, tapping into massive fandoms in comedy, reality TV, sports and more,” said Bela Bajaria, head of Netflix content. “There are no annual live events, sporting or otherwise, that compare to the audience that NFL football attracts. We are so excited that NFL Christmas Day games will only be on Netflix.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to be the first professional sports league to partner with Netflix to bring live games to fans around the world,” said Hans Schroeder, Executive Vice President of Distribution NFL media. “NFL Christmas has become a tradition and partnering with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is usually this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event on a global scale for NFL fans. NFL.”

OK, but which teams will be served with the turkey, stuffing and eggnog? The NFL will announce its full 2024 schedule tonight – including Christmas Day games – on NFL Network, NFL.com, NFL App and NFL+ at 8 p.m. ET. Then come back for an update!

The NFL launched Christmas games in 1971 before bringing them back on a semi-regular basis in 1989. Since 2020, they have been a holiday staple, with last year’s three Christmas games ranking among the top 25 programs on television. most watched in 2023; the Raiders vs. Chiefs game (yes, Taylor Swift and Santa were in attendance) drew the most viewers on Christmas Day since 1988. In total, the NFL has hosted 30 Christmas contests. In keeping with the NFL’s long-standing holiday tradition, Christmas Day games on Netflix will be broadcast on television in the competing teams’ cities and will be available on U.S. mobile devices with NFL+.
