Police investigate bomb threat at Brookfield Elementary School; school deemed safe

Brookfield police were investigating a bomb threat Wednesday afternoon at Brookfield Elementary School. The incident is similar to the threat received on April 9. According to police, the school received the threat on Wednesday around 12:55 p.m. All children and staff members at the school were evacuated to a safe location while law enforcement investigated. Brookfield Elementary School’s principal told WISN 12 News the evacuation went smoothly. K9 units from the Milwaukee County Department of Emergency Ammunition Disposal responded and conducted a search of the school. The school was cleared and deemed safe. The school followed its usual procedures for releasing at scheduled times. “It’s very unfortunate for the kids to have to experience this disruption to their school day, and the teachers and parents are having to experience this disruption,” one parent told WISN 12 News. The Brookfield Police Department said Wednesday that both bomb threats were “conducted in the same manner” but could not confirm whether they were made by the same person. Elmbrook School Board President Scott Wheeler said the district does not know if the two are related, but provided an update on the investigation into the April 9 incident. “We know it was an individual who doesn’t live in the state. I was able to trace the number and find out who did it,” Wheeler said. Wheeler told WISN 12 News the Elmbrook School Board will meet Monday behind closed doors to discuss the two bomb threats and the district’s next steps. “I don’t understand all the causes behind something like this, but I do know that, from the school board’s perspective, we prioritize safety almost more than anything else,” Wheeler said.
