Reds in double talks over summer signing

Liverpool are in talks with Atalanta and Teun Koopmeiners’ agent as they try to win the race for the 26-year-old star, according to reports.

There will be significant changes at Liverpool this summer as Arne Slot prepares to take over from Jurgen Klopp as manager. In a bid to help Liverpool continue to challenge for major trophies under Slot, club chiefs Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes could green light big deals this summer.

The Reds are hoping to sign a new central defender and central midfielder, but they could also bring in a new striker to help Darwin Nunez. Liverpool have also been linked with a sensational move for Rodrygo, but Real Madrid will not sell the Brazilian winger.

In recent weeks, Liverpool have been heavily tipped to sign Koopmeiners, the Dutch midfielder who Slot made captain during their time at AZ Alkmaar.

On May 10, Liverpool “officially registered their interest” in Koopmeiners, who currently represents Atalanta.

And on Tuesday, Liverpool took a step closer to capturing him when it emerged that transfer rivals Juventus would not be able to afford the €60m (£51.5m) fee sterling) needed to complete a deal with Atalanta.

According to the latest reports from Italy, Liverpool have started talks with Koopmeiners’ agent and Atalanta to try to reach an agreement.

Liverpool transfers: Teun Koopmeiners deal talks

Reports do not mention how Liverpool’s first meeting with Koopmeiners’ representative went, but Slot’s appointment should help them convince the Dutch ace to join them.

While Liverpool spent a lot of money revamping their midfield last summer – bringing in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo – it would still make a lot of sense for them to snare a new midfielder. ground.

Gravenberch had a disappointing first season on Merseyside, while Szoboszlai’s form has dipped in recent months. These factors, along with the imminent exit of Thiago Alcantara, warrant a big move from Liverpool for Koopmeiners.

If Liverpool go for a cheaper midfield addition, then they could turn to Khephren Thuram. After being valued at £40m, the Frenchman could leave Nice for just £13m this summer as he enters the final year of his contract soon.
