The Piedmont Triad could experience severe thunderstorms throughout Monday


(WGHP) – We’re going to have a potentially stormy Memorial Day ahead!

The Storm Prediction Center places most of North Carolina at a Level 2/Slight risk of severe thunderstorms. The main threats will come from damaging winds and large hail, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

A line of storms will move toward the Foothills around 7 a.m. and toward the Triad between 9 and 10 a.m. The early afternoon will be very warm, with highs reaching the mid 80s.

A new round of thunderstorms could bring a serious weather threat to the Piedmont between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

A cold front moves through the state this evening, bringing dry and clear skies to the forecast starting Tuesday. High will stay warm, in the mid 80s.

As the Canadian high continues to develop southward, skies here in the Piedmont will remain mostly sunny through Friday and temperatures will gradually cool into the mid-70s by the end of the work week .

This weekend will begin with partly cloudy skies on Saturday and the start of heavier days to come. A few scattered thunderstorms are expected on Sunday as the high pressure slides eastward. High temperatures both days will be near 80° and the chance of rain on Sunday is 30%.
