Two people shot and killed in domestic situation in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Two people are dead after a shooting in Lansing Thursday evening.

Lansing Police told News 10 they first responded to the 500 block of Woodrow Avenue in Lansing around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 50-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman shot to death. LPD said they died at the scene.

Neighbor Jinyi Chen had just learned of the incident when News 10 returned to the scene. Chen said she was shocked to find out, given the neighborhood’s calm and quiet history.

“I was quite surprised to find out because I’ve been here for several years and everything around the neighborhood is pretty quiet and safe for me,” she said.

Other neighbors who spoke with News 10 off-camera said they have always felt safe on their street, and many have reached out to each other to offer support.

LPD said this is likely a nationwide situation. Authorities continued to claim that no arrests had been made, but that the accused was known to police. Regarding this, Chen said it was a relief to know that the incident was not random.

Lansing police are still investigating but tell News 10 there is no active threat to the public. At this time, no information on a possible suspect has been released.

These two homicides are the second and third homicides reported in Lansing in 2024. The first homicide this month occurred in a shooting on Sycamore Street in Lansing on April 10.

All of the homicides took place in April, while none were reported in the first quarter of the year.
