The US State Department plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) to revoke the visas of foreign students who are perceived as supporters of Hamas terrorists, according to a Thursday report, citing senior officials from the State Department.
The effort “Catch and Révoke” fed by AI will include exams assisted by AI tens of thousands of social media accounts for student visas, added the report.
THE The report indicates that the effort was launched by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Rubio then posted on X / Twitter a statement condemning those who support terrorist organizations that threaten national security.
“Those who support the designated terrorist organizations, including Hamas, threaten our national security. The United States has no tolerance for foreign visitors who support terrorists. US lawyers – including international students – are faced with a refusal of visa or revocation and expulsion,” Rubio wrote.
Examination accounts
The Axios report noted that the journals of social media accounts would be “in particular the search for evidence of terrorist sympathies expressed” after the attacks on October 7 of Hamas in 2023, according to officials.
In addition, officials would have “examined the internal databases” to see if “visa holders had been arrested but authorized to stay in the country during the Biden administration”.
Axios added that the civil servants checked information on “anti-Israeli demonstrations and prosecution of Jewish students who highlight foreign nationals who have engaged in anti-Semitic activity without consequences”.
