About 160,000 pounds of ground beef sold at Walmart has been recalled due to concerns it may have been contaminated with the most potent strain of E.coli.

The packages of raw meat had been shipped to the supermarket by Cargill Meat Solutions, a Pennsylvania-based company that sells meat nationwide.

The food safety watchdog is concerned that some products could be found in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers.

The packages do not have Cargill on the label. Instead, the branding on the front is “All Natural.” They were produced on April 26 and 27 and have the identifier “EST.86P”.

The recall notice from the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service states that Cargill reported the problem to them after finding that “previously separated products had been inadvertently used in the production of ground beef.”

Consumers who have purchased these products are asked not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

The specific strain of E. coli in question is O157:H7, known for its potential to cause a form of kidney failure – hemolytic uremic syndrome – which can be fatal.

Symptoms include two to eight days of bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps.

More commonly, symptoms of E.coli include severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting and nausea. These usually appear three to four days after exposure.

Some may feel sick sooner, while others may take a week to feel sick.
