Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Ayrshire issued

The thunderstorm warning will begin at 1pm on Monday afternoon (May 6) and last until 9pm in parts of western Scotland.

Forecasters added that “there is a risk of delays and cancellations to train and bus services” and “a slight risk of power cuts”.

It warns that there is a low risk of flash flooding and danger to life from fast-moving or deep floodwaters.

The Met Office also said there is a small risk that some communities could be cut off by flooded roads.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Thunderstorms and heavy showers are likely in some places this afternoon and evening.

“While not all locations will be affected by these storms and downpours, where they do occur, 20 to 40 mm of rain can fall in some locations within an hour or two.”

Updates and safety advice are available on the Met Office website at metoffice.gov.uk.
